Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Group of Institutions celebrated Community Service Day on 24th January, 2015 at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus, Sector 16, New Panvel. Over 750 residents from various orphanages, old age homes and shelters for tribal and street children, etc. were invited to the Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus where they were treated to a day of food, fun and learning.

The faculty and students conducted many fun activities with them, played games, arranged competitions and they were also taught drawing and painting in the computer labs. The children and the elderly had a lot of fun and enjoyed the day by participating wholeheartedly in all the activities. Each guest was given a specially designed bath towel as a gift. Mahatma Education Society will continue to associate with these organizations and nurture them at an institutional level year after year to improve their quality of life. Mr. Devashish Dass, Director, Idobro and Mrs. Kanchan Aneja, social worker inaugurated the event.

This is a unique community service program is the brainchild of Mr. Franav Pillai, Deputy CEO of the Pillai Group of Institutions who is of the opinion that it is very important to foster a spirit of giving among students and help develop their overall personality. In her inaugural welcome address, Dr. Daphne Pillai, Chairperson of Mahatma Education Society, mentioned that one of the key goals of Mahatma Education Society is to expand its community service activities on a massive scale to help reach out to many underprivileged people in society and inculcate a sense of pride among students and faculty members in serving the less fortunate in society. Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai, CEO of the Pillai Group of Institutions mentioned that it was the philosophy of Mahatma Education Society to encourage faculty and students to participate in various community development programs, which include teaching in the nearby villages, planting trees and actively participating in cleaning the environment.
