The Pillai Group of Institutions has been in the forefront in creating strong global collaborative links to enhance management education in India. The collaboration with St. Mary’s College of Business and Economics was established in 2006 and they have hosted six groups of Pillai students who visit the US every year to learn about American business culture and strategy. The visit of the US students to India to learn the business strategies and management practices clearly indicates the contribution and emerging role of India in shaping the future of the world. The program exposed them to international best practices and an understanding of the growth story of an emerging economy.

Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Group of Institutions welcomed the group of twenty two management students pursuing the Trans-global Executive MBA Program (T-GEMBA) from Saint Mary’s School of Economics and Business Administration, California, USA for a six day cross cultural business studies program at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus, Panvel from the 17th to 22nd March, 2014. This year the T-GEMBA group has partnered with the Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research (PiMSR) and has undertaken 3 projects in Mumbai as a part of the SOSERVMAN (Social Service Management) Program viz. Balprafulta, Creative Handicrafts and Mahatma Night Degree College. They made a study of operational issues, gift-giving and financing issues, logistics questions and strategic issues affecting these organizations. During this visit the US students were given a tour of some slum areas where they interacted with the families living there. They also visited some orphanages and organizations run for the welfare of the disadvantaged women. Subsequent to their study, the students will provide a free of cost recommendatory Project report and presentation to these organizations on the specific areas investigated.

This week long visit also included company visits and lectures at top ranking companies like Tata Consultancy Services, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Reserve Bank of India and National Stock Exchange Limited to get an understanding of the best practices followed by global Indian companies. The students spent a day at Pillai Institute for a lecture series on Entrepreneurship and Turnaround Strategies by top business leaders. In the evening a grand cultural program was put up by the students of the Pillai Group to showcase the rich culture of India.

Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research, Navi Mumbai once again played hosts to management students pursuing the Trans-global Executive MBA Program (T-GEMBA) from Saint Mary’s School of Economics and Business Administration, California, USA visited the Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus, Panvel for a four day cross cultural business studies program from the 15th to 19th July, 2013.

During this visit, the Saint Mary’s students’ provided a Project report and presentation to three social service organizations with whom they have been working for the past one year in collaboration with the Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research viz. 1298 Dial an ambulance, Balprafulta and Don Bosco Research Centre on the specific areas investigated by them. The students were warmly welcomed in these organizations and the presentations made by them were appreciated. In the evening the students were taken to “Shelter” an orphanage run by Don Bosco, Matunga where they interacted with the underprivileged children.
On Day three, the students had site visits at top ranking companies like Hindustan Unilever Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. where they were given a broad idea of strategies and perspectives especially in CSR by the CEO’s of these companies. They also visited the US Consulate where they attended a lecture on emerging business opportunities for India and USA.
On day four, the students spent a day at the various campuses of the Pillai Group of Institutions where they were warmly welcomed with a cultural performance by the students of the various schools and colleges of the Pillai group. The Pillai Institute had organized a lecture series on Entrepreneurship and Turnaround Strategies by top business leaders at the Panvel Campus. They also visited a municipal school run by the Zilla Parishad at Tara Village, Rasayani to understand the differences in private and government education systems.
All in all the four day cross cultural business studies program was an enriching and wonderful experience for all of them.

Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research, Navi Mumbai hosted the management students from the St. Mary’s College of Economics and Business, Moraga, California, USA for an intensive management training program from 29th June to 6th July, 2011. The theme of the program was “Indian Corporate Models, Global Paradigms and Business Strategies”. The program covered lectures by prominent academicians on diverse topics ranging from cultural dimensions in conducting business in India to India in the current global setting. Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai, CEO of Pillai group of institutions, shared his experiences on turnaround strategy for public private business in the context of making the Pillai HOCL campus a viable business option. The visiting professors from US shared their learnings on strategy and high technology with case studies. The students were exposed to corporate strategies and global paradigms applied by manufacturing and service industries across various sectors. They also visited the iconic institutions of Mumbai, The Reserve Bank of India and The Stock Exchange and had an overview of their functions. The welcome and farewell functions consisted of various cultural programs which showcased the abundant talent of the students from the Pillai group, where the teaching and learning methods practiced nurtures the overall development of the child.
