Community Service is one of the main objectives of the Mahatma Education Society which wishes to inculcate in students and faculty the habit of helping the less privileged people in society.

This unique community service program is the brainchild of Mr. Franav Pillai, Deputy CEO of the Pillai Group of Institutions and was first organised in 2012. He is of the opinion that it is very important to foster a spirit of giving among students which will help to develop their overall personality.

Like every year, the 48 institutions of the Mahatma Education Society joined hands and came together for a noble event called Community Service Day. This year, a total of 22 NGOs joined us at our very own Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus in New Panvel. All arrangements for them were taken care of- right from their conveyance to the campus and back to the fun activities that they thoroughly enjoyed.

The Chief Guest for the day was Ms. Barbara Lanier, President of Soroptimist International El Cerrito, San Francisco. Sharing her delight at being present on such an important occasion she spoke about the various initiatives conducted by her Club at San Francisco and urged faculty and students to actively reach out to the marginalised in society.

It was then followed by the talent show Uber Rang.

The day started at about 10:30 a.m. when around 750 members from the various orphanages, old age homes, tribal children, etc. reached the college. Faculties and students of the different MES institutions made sure they had a good time and were comfortable.

They were offered a delicious lunch at 12 p.m. and then different Colleges / Institutions took their respective invited NGOs to different parts of the campus where many entertaining activities were arranged for them.

Fun activities like drawing, painting, sketching, finger painting and dancing were arranged for the younger children whereas singing and dancing programs were arranged for the elderly. Everyone participated whole-heartedly and enjoyed themselves. They were served tea and snacks along with a gift for everyone. The students and faculty also had a great time interacting with everyone.

By 5 p.m. the college buses dropped everyone to their respective destinations. This ended a fulfilling day which humbled one and all, and unfailingly put on a smile on each face. Our institutions will continue to stay in touch with these organisations and offer support and work towards the betterment of society.
